Heaven 2 mural

Heaven 2 was a mural displayed outside La Galería de la Raza from November 2000 to January 2001.[5] It portrays a woman on her deathbed thinking of herself and her lover holding hands on the moon.[5] was defaced with Bible verses and the gallery staff received homophobic threats and a gunshot through their window.[5]

Santa Fe exhibition

An exhibition at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico caused controversy when her work Our Lady was exhibited there.[4] Three weeks after the exhibit opened, a group met with museum curators and asked that the image be removed immediately.[4]

The curator of the exhibit received threatening phone calls.[4]

UCC Exhibition

An exhibition containing her work Our Lady was picketed by protestors.[3][6] Alma Lopez argued that the protests were the result of a campaign by America Needs Fatima and that her visit to the conference was preceded by a large number of emails and petitions being sent to UCC.[6] She said that the work was not blasphemous and that the campaign by the group was motivated by racism, sexism and homophobia.[6]
